The New England Patriots had one of the greatest — if not the greatest — quarterbacks of all time leading them to the mountaintop.
They used to have a very good one before Tom Brady in Drew Bledsoe as well, so the fans are pretty used to being all set at the most crucial position in the game.
And with the NFL becoming a quarterback-driven league now more than ever, it’s become painfully evident that you need a good quarterback to compete.
That’s why, according to Mike Reiss, they’re “very motivated” to find a new franchise quarterback in this edition of the NFL Draft (via Carlos Talks Pats on Twitter).
The #Patriots are “very motivated” to walk away from this draft with a quarterback, per @MikeReiss.

Reiss argued that they’re currently very satisfied with a veteran like Jacoby Brissett, who they feel could be their stop-gap starter while mentoring a young quarterback, but it wouldn’t be a good look for them to leave this draft without a guy for the future.
He also revealed that he doesn’t know how they’re evaluating them, but he feels like there’s just no way they don’t take one.
For most of the draft process, they’ve been linked to UNC star Drake Maye, who could benefit from a year on the sidelines before being thrown into the fire.
De facto GM Eliot Wolf also revealed that they were open from business and could consider trading down from No. 3 if the right opportunity presented itself, but it would likely take a major haul to get them to move back.
Whoever they get will have some big shoes to fill.
