The Charlotte Hornets are going to be in the hunt for a new head coach.

Steve Clifford stepped down from the job, and while he’s a great coach, it was clearly time to go in a different direction.

The Hornets are stacked with young and immature players, and they need someone who can get to them and help them keep the main thing first.

That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see that former sharpshooter JJ Redick could be a candidate for the job.

With that in mind, his former teammate, Luka Doncic, teased him and joked about him becoming their next coach (via NBA Central).

Redick was doing the broadcast for Game 3 of the Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Clippers’ first-round series when Doncic spotted him and poked some fun at him.

The former Los Angeles Clippers star was reportedly on the shortlist to be the Toronto Raptors’ coach last season, but they wound up going with Darko Rajaković instead.

He’s currently quite busy, though, as he’s a part of ESPN’s main NBA broadcast crew while also making regular appearances on First Take.

On top of that, he’s got two successful podcasts, the Old Man & the Three and Mind the Game with LeBron James.

Redick has made big strides in his post-playing career as an entrepreneur and media presence, so perhaps leaving that to get back to the league may not be in his best interests right now.

That’s unless they make him an offer he can’t refuse.
