The Boston Celtics needed to make a statement, and so they did.

Following one of the most shocking and humiliating playoff losses in the Joe Mazzulla era — and there have been plenty of those in just two years — they needed to prove that they wouldn’t be pushed around by a less talented team.

The Celtics hit the ground running and got back at the Miami Heat, dominating them on both ends of the floor from start to finish.

When asked about his mindset for this game, coach Joe Mazzulla claimed that he trusted his guys, and while he doesn’t expect them to go out and play perfectly in every game, he always likes their chances (via Celtics on NBC Sports Boston).

“I trust our team,” Mazzulla said.

The Celtics had never had a shortage of talent, but they’ve always seemed to have an attitude or character problem.

This dates back years to when Brad Stevens was still the coach and Danny Ainge was making the personnel-related decisions.

The Celtics need to show up ready to play night in and night out and they have to show their toughness in adversity.

That’s the only way to get over this hump and win their first championship in more than 15 years.
