The Dallas Mavericks are rolling during the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs as they’ve won two consecutive games after dropping Game 1 to the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Mavericks have gotten star performances from Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, while the rest of the supporting cast headlined by P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford have been great in their roles.
On the other side of the country, Jalen Brunson is leading the New York Knicks in a tough matchup against Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brunson has blossomed since leaving Dallas, morphing into a superstar guard for a New York organization that’s been reinvigorated by his presence.
The Mavericks allowed Brunson to walk in free agency a couple of summers ago, a puzzling decision at the time that has aged poorly.
Micah Parsons to this day still wonders why the organization decided to let Brunson leave, via his personal Twitter account.
“How we let Brunson go bro?!” Parsons tweeted.

Brunson has been open about his exit from the Mavericks and even revealed that he would’ve signed a cheaper deal to stay with the team before he hit free agency.
The point guard wound up signing a four-year deal worth up to $104 million, a bargain of a deal for the Knicks who are ecstatic that he’ll be their leader for the next couple of years.
Dallas was proactive in looking for his replacement, though, landing Irving in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets.
Everything seems to have worked out for everyone, but it’s fair to wonder how things would’ve looked had Dallas just kept Brunson.
