The New York Giants selected LSU All-American receiver Malik Nabers with the 6th overall pick in the NFL Draft last Thursday night.
However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, they were actually hoping for Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 5 overall, to fall to them.
“I believe that the Giants wanted Joe Alt to slide to them,” Schefter told “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday.
“I believe that the Giants wanted Joe Alt to fall to them..
Jim Harbaugh was never gonna go WR with that pick and they took Joe Alt”

With veteran receivers Sterling Shepard and Parris Campbell moving on earlier this offseason, the Giants seemingly made the right call taking Nabers after Alt failed to fall down to them.
There is no doubt that the 6-8, 320-pound Alt was definitely a prospect worth waiting for.
He was a two-time All-American and a true force while at Notre Dame.
He should fit right in while blocking for head coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback Justin Herbert out in Los Angeles.
The Giants added multiple offensive linemen in free agency, including former Packers guard Jon Runyan Jr.
Receiver was a bigger need for the team, and they made the right move by going with Nabers after Alt was taken.
Nabers is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and recorded nearly 190 career receptions while in Baton Rouge.
With quarterback Daniel Jones’ job possibly on the line entering the 2024 season, having a talent like Nabers out wide, along with other help along the offensive line, which was found in free agency, the passing offense should be much better this season.
