The 2023-24 NBA season is officially over for the Los Angeles Lakers and the front office is eager to turn the page and start a new chapter.
That means that several major changes could be coming for the team.
On Tuesday’s “Run It Back,” Shams Charania had some bad news for fans of Lakers head coach Darvin Ham.
“I’m told [Ham’s] job status is in serious peril. It is highly unlikely that he will be back as head coach of this team,” Charania stated.
After two seasons with a mix of success and failure, it seems that Ham’s time with the team is coming to an end.

This news is not a bit surprising to anyone who has been paying attention to the Lakers this season.
The team has suffered a ton of issues, many of them related to the rotation of the team.
Ham’s inconsistency regarding rotations is one of the many issues people had with his job this year.
He benched D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves for multiple games, wasn’t able to make adjustments on the fly, and seemingly had resistance to calling timeouts at the right moment.
A few months ago, there were rumors of Ham being in the hot seat and possibly losing his job but the team’s front office stood by his side and wanted to ride out the rest of the season.
Now it’s over and they are rethinking their commitment to Ham.
“The Lakers really believe that they had the talent this season to potentially go further than they did,” Charania said.
If they want to progress next season and go further than the first round, they will need new talent on the court and new talent on the coaching staff.
The race to find Ham’s replacement could be one of the most interesting stories to watch this offseason.
