Right before the 2024 NFL Draft, a bunch of rumors surfaced about the Los Angeles Chargers being interested in trading Justin Herbert, likely so they could take J.J. McCarthy with their No. 5 overall pick.

Of course, these rumors came out during the time of the year when everyone lies and throws things against the wall to see what will stick, and the team’s GM finally spoke out on this topic to confirm how ridiculous those rumors were.

Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” today to discuss the rumors, and he said, “I had some loose questions at the combine about Justin Herbert that were quickly shut down,” and added, “there were no real discussions about us ever trading Justin Herbert.”

Hortiz added that they didn’t get any serious calls about a trade and that he had no idea where those rumors were coming from.

He also joked that if he came in and traded Herbert he would have been the shortest-tenured GM in NFL history.

This news should surprise absolutely nobody, as some media pundits clearly emptied their rumor clip right before the draft in order to get some attention.

There was no world where Herbert was traded, no matter how fun it would be to reunite McCarthy with Jim Harbaugh.
