The New England Patriots were in big need of a quarterback.

Fortunately for them, this year’s edition of the NFL Draft featured more than enough talent at the position.

The Pats would be on the clock with the No. 3 selection, and with the top three picks all expected to be quarterbacks — both because of their talent and the top-three teams’ needs — they were almost certain to find their guy there.

Now, a report by Cameron Wolfe reveals that the Patriots were already locked in on getting a signal-caller.

Moreover, they didn’t feel like they were actually making a choice, as they were more than comfortable with any of the guys that could’ve slipped to No. 3 (Via Los Pats Talks).

The #Patriots were comfortable drafting whichever quarterback fell to them out of Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye — the front office felt like they didn’t have a “choice” in terms of preference, per @CameronWolfe.

Apparently, first-year HC Jerod Mayo was very high on Jayden Daniels, but it’s not like he had any sort of preference.

The report adds that they never truly considered J.J. McCarthy over Drake Maye, and they would’ve only gotten a glimpse of the J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr. group of QB prospects if they had gotten a Godfather-like offer, which they didn’t.

Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye all have a sky-high upside, although Maye seems to have the most work to do to get on the gridiron.

Hopefully, the Patriots won’t rush him to the field and will allow him to develop his game and improve his mechanics.

It’ll require a lot of patience to get him ready to start in the National Football League.
