Today is either a special day or a sad depending on how Broncos fans are feeling.
25 years ago, legendary quarterback John Elway hung up his cleats after 16 fantastic seasons playing for the Broncos.
He would be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
When John Elway officially retired 25 years ago today, he ranked second all-time in:
Passing yards (51,475) and completions (4,123)
He ranked third all-time in passing touchdowns (300)

The greatest player in franchise history holds plenty of team records including pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.
The two-time Super Bowl winner was the league’s MVP in 1987 and is a member of both the NFL’s 1990s All-Decade Team and the 100th Anniversary Team.
Other than edge-rusher Von Miller and cornerback Champ Bailey, there isn’t anybody that comes close to what Elway did in the Mile High City.
The reason Broncos fans might be depressed about this is because they haven’t had much success finding quarterbacks besides Peyton Manning, who won MVP in 2013 and helped the team finally win another Super Bowl.
More recently, Denver has struggled to find stability under center.
The team has brought in names like Brock Osweiler, Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, Case Keenum, Drew Lock, Joe Flacco, Brandon Allen, Teddy Bridgewater, Brett Rypien, Russell Wilson, and Jarrett Stidham over the last near-decade.
When people think of the great era of quarterbacks in the 80s and 90s, they think of Joe Montana, John Elway, Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Steve Young, and so many others.
