After getting off to a promising start in October, November, December and January, the Philadelphia 76ers’ season has ended in very disappointing fashion.

They were eliminated from the NBA playoffs on Thursday by the New York Knicks in Game 6 of their first-round series on their home court, 118-115, even though they put up a fierce fight until the very end.

When healthy, they have a very strong roster, but improvements will need to be made if they are to finally get over the hump and become a true championship contender.

Fortunately, Paul George is a star who could be available in free agency this summer, and the Sixers are reportedly interested in him, per Evan Sidery.

The Clippers have been unwilling to offer George a max contract, which Philadelphia appears prepared to do.

George has played for the Los Angeles Clippers for the last five seasons.

The Clippers have been one of the NBA’s most talented teams in recent years, but they have collapsed early in the playoffs almost every year.

If he were to come to Philly, the 6-foot-8 forward would likely essentially be a replacement for Tobias Harris, who will be a free agent once the new league year starts.

Harris played poorly in the series against New York, and in Game 6, when his team needed him the most, he took just two shots and went scoreless in 29 minutes.

George just turned 34 years of age and may be injury-prone, but it is possible he could be the final piece for a Sixers franchise that hasn’t gotten to the Eastern Conference Finals since 2001 and hasn’t won it all since 1983.
