The 2023-24 NBA season came to an end for the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this week after a hard-fought battle against the New York Knicks.

Fans of the 76ers were disappointed to see their team fall short in the opening round but they were also proud of how their squad battled.

NBA icon Julius Erving was one of the many people impressed by the team.

Writing on Twitter, Erving said, “I will remember this season for the guts and grit shown by the Sixers through injury and adversity. Thank you Sixers fans and congrats to the Knicks.”

This season was definitely a very complicated one for the Sixers.

It started under the heavy, dark cloud cast by the James Harden situation.

When he left for the Los Angeles Clippers at the start of the year, many people wondered how the 76ers would move on.

The rest of the roster stepped up in a big way, including eventual Most Improved Player Tyrese Maxey, who shined consistently throughout the regular season and the playoffs.

Of course, Joel Embiid was again the star player for the team.

But, once again, Embiid suffered injury problems and missed months with another knee problem.

He came back for Philadelphia right before the playoffs kicked off but he was still trying to shake off the injury and wasn’t always playing at full speed.

Indeed, he looked banged up and exhausted during the playoffs, as did many other members of the Sixers.

This was considered a transitional year for many Sixers fans and they are hopeful that a few changes in the summer could set the stage for a huge comeback season next year.
