Younger fans may or may not think Michael Jordan was the greatest player in NBA history.
However, Jordan had something no other player — and no other athlete, may I say — had, and that’s his aura.
We’re talking about a guy who made grown men feel starstruck every single time they met him, a guy whose fame and frenzy around him was only topped by prime Michael Jackson.
That’s why JJ Redick — who’s been oddly critical of old-school basketball in an attempt to uplift today’s game — asked Shaquille O’Neal what it was like to go against prime Jordan when he was a rookie.
Truth to form, Shaq claimed that it was God-like, stating that he just couldn’t believe that the guy he saw on television was real (Via The Big Podcast & NBA Central).

This is no diss towards LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, or any other player, but that’s just one of the many things that made Jordan unique.
It’s not like young players weren’t starstruck to meet LeBron or Kobe, but Jordan inspired so much respect and fear that it’s just impossible to compare with any other professional athlete, ever.
Whether he was the greatest player to ever do it or not is a debate for another day.
That discussion might be as futile as it is impossible to settle, and it’s not like other players haven’t made a strong case for themselves.
But when it comes to that aura, the great Michael Jeffery Jordan is second to none.
