Few people were surprised when the Los Angeles Lakers fired head coach Darvin Ham late last week.
It seemed like it was just a matter of time before the team parted ways with Ham, who had been leading the Lakers since the start of the previous season.
Obviously, the Lakers didn’t end the season the way they wanted, but was that the only reason Ham lost his job?
Speaking with Colin Cowherd, via The Volume, NBA analyst Jason Timpf said that Ham’s personality is to blame for his firing.
Timpf said that Ham was a “benevolent motivator” who “never held those guys accountable on a day-to-day basis.”
He also added that Ham mismanaged the talent on the roster, especially during the middle of the season.

Timpf mentioned that all NBA teams were hoping to have a coach like Ime Udoka last season.
Despite his controversy and firing from the Boston Celtics, Udoka is a very talented coach who used to play in the league and understands players very well.
Ham also played in the NBA and it was assumed that he could be a coach like Udoka.
In the end, he wasn’t hard enough on the Lakers and that is a huge reason why he’s no longer with the team.
It is clear that the front office wants a coach who has a high basketball IQ and a personality that pushes the team.
They didn’t get that with Ham but will the next leader be better?
The search is currently on for Ham’s replacement and there are multiple people in the mix for the position.
Will they check all the boxes and give the Lakers what they really need?
