As the top-seeded Boston Celtics head into the second round of the NBA playoffs to face the Cleveland Cavaliers, head coach Joe Mazzulla and his squad are concerned about the health of veteran scorer Kristaps Porzingis.
Porzingis was one of many stars around the league who went down with an injury during the first round, as he, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Damian Lillard suffered calf strains, which can be a tricky injury that can lead to a severe Achilles injury.
With an Achilles injury commonly following a calf strain if not treated correctly or the player rushes to get back on the floor too soon, teams have to be careful with how they address the injury.
Especially with Porzingis’ injury history, the Celtics brass has to tread lightly with the 28-year-old because they don’t want him to come back too soon and jeopardize the rest of the postseason and potentially a good chunk of next season.
On Monday, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla gave an update on Porzingis, who he claims is getting better, via Celtics on NBC Sports Boston.
“He seemed to be walking a little bit better,” Mazzulla said. “The thing about KP is he puts the time in. A guy like him, every single day, he knows exactly what to do and always puts the work in to be ready whether he’s playing or whether he’s coming back from an injury.”

At this point in time, there’s no telling when Porzingis might be able to get back on the floor for the Celtics as no timetable has been set in stone, but Boston seems optimistic that he’ll be able to return at some point during the playoffs.
With the Cavaliers being massive underdogs in the second round, the Celtics might be able to have a bit more patience when it comes to Porzingis’ return, as Boston might be able to make easy work of Cleveland without him.
