The Minnesota Timberwolves wanted to make a statement, and a statement was made.

Their win in Game 1 was slightly shocking, but it wasn’t a blowout.

Then, with Rudy Gobert out for Game 2, most people expected the defending NBA champions to even things up with a statement win of their own.

Not only was that not the case, but Chris Finch’s team also dominated the Denver Nuggets on both ends of the floor en route to a 26-point home loss.

With that in mind, sports analyst Skip Bayless took to Twitter to express his shock about this situation.

I thought the Nuggets would make a STATEMENT tonight. How about, “We got no answers against this TWolves defense.”

Bayless admitted that he thought the champions would take care of business on Monday night, but it now seems like they just have no answer for Minnesota’s defense.

The Timberwolves played lockdown, gritty, and physical defense for 48 minutes straight.

The Nuggets were frustrated right out of the gate, with Jamal Murray failing to make shots, and Nikola Jokic scoring just 16 points on 5-of-13 from the floor.

With Naz Reid and Karl-Anthony Towns, the Timberwolves have enough size and big bodies to throw at Jokic, and while he’s still the best player in the league, his supporting cast has been lacking in the past two games.

The series is far from over, and the Nuggets are the champions for a reason.

But with Games 3 and 4 set to take place at Target Center in front of the Timberwolves’ faithful, it’s hard to envision them losing both of those matchups, not even against Nikola Jokic and company.
