Over the years, there’s been a lot of debate about which professional sport is harder to play in, the NFL or NBA, and which athletes from one league could legitimately play in the other.
Some believe that NBA players wouldn’t be able to handle the NFL, which is an incredibly physically demanding league.
This is especially true given how soft professional basketball has gotten over the years, with so many rule changes to benefit the offensive side of the basketball floor.
Recently, Austin Rivers of ESPN claimed that 30 players in the NBA right now could make the transition to the NFL, but the same couldn’t be said for the other way around.
Well, former Houston Texans superstar and three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt went at Rivers for his take, blasting him because he doesn’t currently have a job playing in the NBA.
Although Watt went at Rivers because he clearly didn’t like his take, the former NFL superstar admitted he couldn’t play in the NBA, as all he could do is use his six fouls.
for the record, I could absolutely not play in the NBA.
6 hard fouls is about all I could give you and call it a day.

Ultimately, it comes down to athletes in both of these sports and more often than not, players in the NBA are likely a bit more athletic than those in the NFL, even though that’s up for debate.
As for Watt, he’s also been in the news lately for contemplating making a return to the football field, as he would answer the call if the upstart Texans came calling to get him back in uniform for the 2024 NFL season.
