Insider Reveals Why Jamal Murray Was Not Suspended

Fortunately for their team and their fans, Jamal Murray will suit up for the Denver Nuggets in Game 3.

Some thought the league would suspend Murray for his questionable behavior in their Game 2 loss.

Murray threw a towel and a heating pad onto the court.

He was on the bench when he threw the items just inches away from Karl-Anthony Towns, who could’ve stepped on them and gotten seriously hurt.

Nonetheless, the league just issued him a $100,000 fine, which is pretty much pocket change for a player making that kind of money.

When asked about why he wasn’t suspended, NBA insider Shams Charania revealed that Murray actually threw the objects toward the referees, not onto the court (via Run It Back).

“When the NBA does their investigation, they interview everyone, I’m told Jamal Murray did show some contrition in that interview—taking acceptance that, yeah he did throw those objects towards the official.”@ShamsCharania on Jamal Murray’s $100K fine

While that’s not necessarily better, Charania reported that the league conducted a series of interviews that concluded that Murray didn’t intend to hurt anybody; he was just frustrated.

Even the officials reportedly claimed that they didn’t sense that Murray was purposely trying to get someone hurt, and considering that he didn’t have a history of this kind of behavior in the past, the league kind of let it slide.

Intentional or not, this was unacceptable and reckless.

Murray could’ve hurt even one of his own teammates, and it’s hard to think the league would’ve taken the same approach if he were, say, Draymond Green.

Then again, we always want to see the best players on the court and hopefully, he’ll learn from that little slap on the wrist and won’t engage in this kind of antic ever again.
