After the 2022 NFL season came to an end for the Arizona Cardinals, superstar defensive end J.J. Watt decided it was time to call it a career after two years with the team and 12 years in the league.
Although Watt was still putting up numbers, as he recorded 12.5 sacks in his final season, it seemed as though Watt had grown tired of trying to stay healthy year after year, as it was clear his body was breaking down and no longer able to handle the grind of an NFL season.
Despite walking away from the game content and awaiting a call to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Watt teased Houston Texans fans recently by admitting that he’d take the call to return if the situation was just right.
Watt clarified his recent comments about a potential NFL comeback while on “The Pat McAfee Show,” emphasizing that it would have to be the “exact right situation,” which hasn’t presented itself yet.
“The thought of it is obviously incredible, and trust me, any retired athlete has always wondered what it would be like. ‘Man, that’s the best feeling in the world,’” Watt said. “… The only thing you would ever come back for now is if the exact right situation happened where you had a chance to do something that you had never done before.”

With the Texans having a breakout season last year with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud under center, Houston is clearly a team on the rise with championship aspirations moving forward.
Obviously, the chance to play for a Super Bowl title is intriguing for Watt, as he failed to win one during his career, but it doesn’t appear he’s rushing to get signed for the 2024 campaign.
