The Indiana Pacers couldn’t hold onto their double-digit lead and even up the series.

Following the game, coach Rick Carlisle was livid at the officials, and there were plenty of complaints on social media about the referees having a lopsided whistle and favoring the home side.

When asked about that, however, Tyrese Haliburton didn’t want to make any excuses.

Following the loss, he stated that it was not his place to talk about the referees or whether they had been biased or not (via Knicks Videos).

“That’s not my job. At the end of the day we got outplayed. We were right there to win the game. Would I like more consistency? Yeah. But let’s not pretend that’s the only reason we lost. We didn’t play good enough,” Haliburton said.

Tyrese Haliburton was asked if the referees are being fair:

Instead, he believes they got outplayed and it was on them to close out the deal and secure the win.

That’s what you want to see and hear from your franchise player.

Granted, the referees haven’t exactly been stellar more often than not, but it’s not like they were a deciding factor in this matchup.

The Pacers were up by as many as 12 points at one point, and they led by double digits at halftime.

They couldn’t make the most of the opportunity that came with Jalen Brunson missing most of the first half with an injury, and they allowed them to double them in the third quarter with a 36-18 score.

At the end of the day, the Knicks deserve some credit, but the Pacers — not the referees — also deserve some of the blame.
