Darvin Ham has been out of a job for just a week after being fired by the Los Angeles Lakers, but he could be back in the NBA very soon.
On Thursday morning, the Charlotte Hornets announced that Charles Lee would be their new head coach in 2024-25.
Evan Sidery says Ham is “a name to monitor as a lead assistant candidate.”
Ham and Lee have a history; they worked together under Mike Budenholzer from 2014-2022.

If Ham does indeed secure an assistant coaching job with the Hornets, it will place him at the center of an up-and-coming team that could be very exciting over the next few years.
The Hornets have been undergoing a lot of changes lately with new players, new ownership, and now a new coach.
They have a roster full of youthful talent but the Hornets have been struggling for the last several years.
There is hope that Charlotte is turning a corner and could start to climb back into playoff contention next season.
Ham is looking to put his complicated tenure with the Lakers behind him.
Last season, the Lakers rebounded from a very bad start and went all the way to the Western Conference Finals.
This season, they experienced a similar rebound but didn’t have as much success, getting pushed out in the opening round of the playoffs against the Denver Nuggets.
Under other circumstances, Ham may have kept his job.
However, with LeBron James nearing retirement, the Lakers’ front office is eager to make changes quickly to earn one more championship before he leaves.
Ham’s time with the Lakers wasn’t perfect but he did achieve some impressive things with the team.
Therefore, even if he doesn’t land an assistant coaching job with the Hornets, he will likely find another spot in the NBA soon.
