It’s been seven years since Jayson Tatum made it to the NBA.
Despite his youth, he’s already a veteran in this league, and the talent is definitely there.
However, he has failed to take the next step as a leader, and some are starting to fear that might never happen.
Notably, that includes former Boston Celtics player Kendrick Perkins.
“I’m so over Jayson Tatum. When is he going to arrive? He talked about how he couldn’t wait to get to the postseason, well it’s here. What are you going to do about it? It’s in his hands, this is Jayson Tatum’s moment,” Perkins said.

Talking on First Take, he claimed that he was already over Tatum as a star.
He believes he’s just never going to ‘arrive,’ and called him out for not showing up in the playoffs.
This is a lot coming from a guy who openly roots for the Celtics and who has had his back over and over, but he might be right.
Tatum is one of the most talented players in the game, and he’s shown that he’s capable of putting up MVP-caliber numbers year in and year out.
Even some Celtics fans were livid at the fact that he wasn’t an MVP candidate this season despite having the best record in the league by a significant margin, and it has everything to do with this kind of thing.
As great a player as he is, the narrative around him is that he can’t get the job done in big moments.
Of course, it’s unfair and inaccurate to blame a single player for a team’s shortcomings, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a Robin instead of Batman.
Then again, that’s the kind of scrutiny and weight that comes with being the face of a storied franchise like the Celtics.
