Even though the New York Knicks haven’t won an NBA championship in five decades, New York City is still the basketball mecca or at least one of them.
New York’s basketball tradition dates back generations.
Packed high school games, the legendary Rucker Park, streetball players, and hundreds of local legends have made a name for themselves in the Big Apple.
More than that, they have a long tradition of point guards, perhaps the most notorious position in the state.
That’s why Gilbert Arenas asked Mark Jackson, who knows a thing or two about NYC point guards, who was the greatest NYC PG of all time (via Gils Arena).

Unsurprisingly, the former player and coach couldn’t make up his mind.
Instead, he talked about some of the best to ever do it, from Bob Cousy to Kenny Smith, Stephon Marbury, or even Rod Strickland, who was expected to be as big as LeBron James.
Jackson proudly said that New York City was the home of point guards, not combo guards, and he might be right.
Even though some of those players didn’t find as much success in the NBA as they originally thought or hoped, they’ve still become hometown heroes.
It’s hard to think of a bigger basketball town, and they have one of the biggest fan bases on Earth.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before the Knicks will take another championship home, as those fans have been through more than enough since the last time they even made it to the NBA Finals.
