For most of it’s history, the NBA has rewarded bad teams with a chance to turn things around with a generational player.

The NBA Draft Lottery gives teams that didn’t make the playoffs an opportunity to get the best prospects in college or coming to the U.S. from overseas.

The worse the record, the higher the odds of landing the No. 1 selection.

With that in mind, and ahead of Sunday’s NBA Draft Lottery, the league took to Twitter to share the odds for every team involved in it.

There, it shows that the Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards are tied with 14% odds, followed by the Charlotte Hornets (13.3%), Portland Trail Blazers (13.2%), and San Antonio Spurs (10.5%).

Then, we find the Toronto Raptors (9.0%), Memphis Grizzlies (7.5%), Utah Jazz (6.0%), Brooklyn Nets (4.5%), Atlanta Hawks (3.0%), Chicago Bulls (2.0%), Houston Rockets (1.5%), Sacramento Kings (0.8%), and Golden State Warriors (0.7%).

This system is supposed to keep the league’s competitive balance and prevent the best teams from also getting the best prospects.

Then again, it’s one thing to have a high draft pick, and it’s an entirely different thing to put it to good use.

Sometimes, teams swing and miss when scouting prospects, while others, they just fail to develop the players the right way.

Hopefully, that won’t be the case this time, and while this NBA Draft class isn’t particularly impressive, we’ll get to see at least a couple of stars make it to the league.
