The 2024 NBA Draft is a month away, but the excitement has been dulled given the fact that analysts and talent evaluators aren’t enamored with any of the top prospects.
There are interesting names like Alex Sarr and Nikola Topic who have All-Star upside, but the rest of the class is a gamble given the lack of high-end talent.
The draft lottery will determine the order in which the teams will pick at the top of the draft in June, with the Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards having the best odds to land the No. 1 overall pick.
Normally, teams are ecstatic to land a top pick in the draft as it normally results in a good player or valuable trade ammo.
In this year’s case, Jeff Goodman believes that owning the No. 1 pick is actually detrimental and could cost a general manager their job via his personal Twitter account.
“I’m not gonna lie. I’ve never been less interested in the NBA Draft lottery than I am today. I just don’t know if there’s much of a difference between the No. 1 and say, the No. 10 pick. If I was an NBA GM, I wouldn’t even want the No. 1 pick. It could wind up costing someone their job,” Goodman tweeted.

The burden of choice is a tough thing to work through when there are numerous viable options to be taken No. 1 overall.
To Goodman’s point, there is a lot of pressure to nail the first pick so perhaps the team that wins the lottery should strongly consider moving back and picking up additional assets.
