While the 2024 NBA Playoffs rage on, the league will also host the annual draft lottery to finalize the team order for the 2024 NBA Draft.
The lottery is an exciting time for fans as they’ll get to figure out where the top prospects might go.
For example, the 2023 NBA Draft was one for the ages and fans got to celebrate early when the San Antonio Spurs were awarded the No. 1 overall pick which they eventually used on Victor Wembanyama.
However, unlike the 2023 class this year’s class doesn’t have a generational prospect like Wembanyama waiting in the wings.
Normally, there’s at least one franchise-altering talent in it but this year’s group doesn’t project nearly as favorably.
The lack of excitement for the lottery has been noticeable and Bill Simmons laid out where it stands in comparison to previous years’ via his personal Twitter account.
“Least exciting NBA Draft Lottery days ever. 2024, 2013, 1989, 2005, 2000,” Simmons tweeted.

As Simmons notes, those drafts didn’t have a true superstar readily available at the top of them though there were certainly good players that eventually emerged.
The 2013 NBA Draft didn’t have a true No. 1, though it did produce Giannis Antetokounmpo who was picked outside of the lottery at No. 15.
This year’s class could have a similar outcome, though right now analysts aren’t projecting an Antetokounmpo-level prospect at any level.
For the most part, there are a lot of players who should develop into solid role players and starters, but it remains to be seen if any of them will reach superstar status.
