The New Orleans Pelicans opened the 2023-24 NBA season with promise as they had a brief stint at the top of the Western Conference standings before injuries hit their roster.
Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram were both forced to miss time during the regular season and unfortunately weren’t able to deliver in the playoffs.
Williamson hurt his hamstring injury in the Play-In Tournament against the Los Angeles Lakers, while Ingram wasn’t 100 percent for their series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
This offseason, major changes to the roster are expected to occur as the team looks to get over the hump.
There are reports that Ingram might be traded as the Pelicans aren’t likely to offer him the max extension that he’s eligible for.
If Ingram is gone, the team will look to build around Williamson which is why they may look to get aggressive come the 2024 NBA Draft via Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.
“Pelicans Update: New Orleans are interested in moving into the top of the 2024 NBA Draft, I’m told. Pelicans believe that there are a few guys at the top of this draft they can pair with Zion Williamson to elevate them to the next level,” Robinson tweeted.

Although the upcoming draft class isn’t considered a strong one, there are several players that have a clear fit next to Williamson.
Prospects like Alex Sarr, Donovan Clingan, and Nikola Topic all look like they could complement Williamson on the floor though that’s largely a projection given they haven’t played against NBA-level competition yet.
