There was a time when Dwight Howard was the best big man in the NBA, and it wasn’t even close.
Even though he doesn’t seem to get enough credit anymore, Howard was a force of nature on both ends of the floor during his prime.
Most teams would’ve loved to have a prime Howard in their ranks, especially at a time when the old-school big man was still a thing.
And while he didn’t exactly excel in his game in the post, his physicality, rim protection, and rebounding skills made him a problem.
Eventually, however, his relationship with the Orlando Magic reached a breaking point, and it was time for him to leave.
Recently, he revealed on the OGs Podcast that he wanted to get traded to the Brooklyn Nets, but that wasn’t the case (via ClutchPoints).
“They traded me to Brooklyn, and then they called me and waived me.”

Howard then joked about the time the Charlotte Hornets traded him to Brooklyn and he was waived immediately, stating that it was the closest he ever got to the team.
Dwight’s first tenure in Los Angeles was disappointing, and he didn’t leave the team on good terms.
He was able to redeem himself later by helping them win an NBA championship as a key reserve.
Still, it somehow feels like he wasted his prime years.
His partnership with James Harden in the Houston Rockets wasn’t successful, and he bounced around the league in the following seasons.
Now, despite still being in shape, he’s not even signed.
Still, Howard deserves plenty of praise for his career, and even though he was inexplicably left out of the league’s Top-75 list, he’s definitely a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
