Before heading into the NBA Draft Lottery over the weekend, the Atlanta Hawks were already considered to be a team that could be making some moves during this offseason, with superstar guard Trae Young potentially getting traded at some point during the summer.

Along with all the rumors and speculation surrounding Young’s future in Atlanta, the Hawks kicked things into high gear, securing the top pick in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft after having only a 3% chance of getting the No. 1 overall selection.

With the Hawks arguably potentially a piece or two away from being a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference, the team’s ownership of the top pick in the draft makes things that much more interesting heading into the summer.

Unfortunately for Atlanta, unlike last year’s draft, in which Victor Wembanyama was the top prize, this year’s draft class is considered to be relatively weak, as there doesn’t seem to be a clear game-changer available.

That said, there could be a lot of trades that take place, including the Hawks at No. 1, which former NBA star Lou Williams believes Atlanta should do via NBA on TNT.

“Trade that pick,” Williams said. “This is not the time to be trying to rebuild.”

With the Hawks more than likely working the phones due to the Young situation in Atlanta, it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that they make the top pick in June’s draft available to the highest bidder.

The real question moving forward is what they can get for that pick and how much interest there will be around the league.
