The Los Angeles Lakers are looking for a new head coach and they are reportedly thinking about their future.
Shams Charania appeared on Tuesday’s “Run It Back” and reported that JJ Redick, James Borrego, and Sam Cassell have emerged as the leading head coaching targets for the Lakers, who are attempting to find someone who can lead the team for years to come.
The front office is reportedly attempting to find a coach who can not only make the most of the last few years with both LeBron James and Anthony Davis but also forge a path into the post-James era.
So they are trying to hire someone who can help the Lakers win as soon as possible and for the foreseeable future too.

While some teams use a coaching search as an opportunity to rebuild and lay the groundwork for a slow process that will eventually help them arrive at greatness, the Lakers need someone who can find victory in 2024–25 but also plan ahead.
It is clear that the Lakers know their time with James is coming to an end and they want to capitalize on it but also leave the franchise in good hands, presumably Davis’.
Both Borrego and Cassell have coaching experience, with Borrego being an assistant for the New Orleans Hornets, Orlando Magic, and San Antonio Spurs and then head coach for the Magic and Charlotte Hornets.
Meanwhile, Cassell has been an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Boston Celtics since retiring from the league in 2008.
As for Redick, this would be his first coaching job.
He spent years in the league with numerous teams and has been an outspoken and popular commentator since then but does that mean he has what it takes to lead such a storied franchise?
The Lakers don’t want another coach who only lasts a few years so they will handle this search with care, meaning it could take some time.
