The Los Angeles Lakers are taking their search for a new head coach seriously and they are relying on a basketball icon to do it right.
According to Shams Charania and Jovan Buha, via Evan Sidery, the Lakers are “utilizing Hall of Fame head coach Mike Krzyzewski as an ‘unofficial resource’ during their head coaching search.”
They are turning to Krzyzewski for his years of experience and basketball knowledge, getting his input and listening to his comments about their new potential coaches.

This tidbit about Krzyzewski was reported as Charania and Buha also revealed that JJ Redick, James Borrego, and Sam Cassell are the leading candidates for the head coaching position.
Of course, Krzyzewski is close with Redick, who played under him at Duke for four years.
He is surely giving the Lakers insight about Redick and what he would bring to the team, but he is probably also discussing the other candidates too.
Some Lakers fans may wonder why the team isn’t just pursuing Krzyzewski for the role if they value his judgment so much.
However, Krzyzewski is retired and likely isn’t interested in the job.
Additionally, the report says that the Lakers are looking for a young coach who can be with the team for years.
They have had several leaders over the last few years who haven’t lasted long and they are looking to change that.
Instead, they want to hire someone who will lead the team for years, possibly even decades, just like Krzyzewski did at Duke.
The fact that the Lakers are speaking with Krzyzewski shows just how seriously they are handling this search.
