The Los Angeles Lakers are once again in the market for a new head coach after firing Darvin Ham following a 4-1 series loss at the hands of the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the playoffs, marking the second year the Nuggets have run them over in the postseason after last year’s sweep in the Western Conference Finals.
Ham took over after the Lakers fired Frank Vogel despite him leading the team to a championship just a few years prior, so expectations are always going to be through the roof with this franchise, and now we know which four candidates will be first in line to try to live up to them.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers have secured permission to interview four candidates for the head coaching vacancy, including New Orleans Pelicans assistant James Borrego, Denver Nuggets assistant David Adelman, Philadelphia 76ers assistant Sam Cassell, and Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori.

This doesn’t mean the Lakers will only be interviewing four candidates, but these are the first four confirmed candidates with interviews on the books.
Former player and current broadcaster/podcaster JJ Redick has reportedly emerged as a top candidate as well, though he does not have an interview scheduled at this time.
This next hire will be crucial, as LeBron James is 39 years old and has the option to leave this summer.
He doesn’t have much time left to get another championship, so the Lakers have to do everything they can to get better.
These four candidates are all strong and accomplished coaches, and it’ll be interesting to see how this process plays out.
