Colin Cowherd is never one to shy away from strong takes, and his newest victim is one of the teams remaining in the NBA playoffs.

After last night’s performance, Cowherd had it out for this team and is not impressed with their opponent’s stellar performance due to the defense being so bad.

Jalen Brunson dropped 44 points for the New York Knicks last night in their 121-91 victory in Game 5 over the Indiana Pacers, a performance that did not impress Cowherd due to the Pacers having a “pathetic defense,” (via NBACentral).

Brunson was 18-35 for 44 points and seven assists, and Cowherd threw a blanket on the fire of Brunson’s scalding run through the Eastern Conference playoffs, saying that the five worst defenses in the NBA were all in the East and lamented the Pacers for allowing opponents to shoot 50 percent from the field this season (it was actually 49.6 percent, which was last in the NBA).

He acknowledged Myles Turner’s shot-blocking ability as the only thing that stands out on a “pathetic” defense.

It’s tough to disagree with this take, as the Pacers prioritize offense over defense and look to turn every game into a track meet.

When they aren’t hitting their shots at their usual pace, games can get ugly, as we saw last night when they got blown out by 30.

That doesn’t mean that Brunson’s run hasn’t been incredibly impressive, as he leads the postseason in scoring at 33.9 points per game and has the Knicks flying higher than they have in decades.

New York is one win away from its first Eastern Conference Finals trip since 2000.
