With the Cleveland Cavaliers falling apart in the second-round playoff series against the top-seeded Boston Celtics, the team heads into the NBA offseason with a lot of questions about the roster, namely what the future holds for superstar guard Donovan Mitchell.
Over the past year or so, there’s been a lot of speculation about Mitchell’s future, as many believe he doesn’t want to be in Cleveland and won’t sign a contract extension with the team, which would motivate the franchise to trade him this summer.
The Los Angeles Lakers, Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat have been the teams most connected with these trade rumors involving Mitchell, as they could be the most likely to send a trade offer to Cleveland during the offseason.
However, things got a bit more interesting with the Cavaliers situation on Thursday, with a dark horse team emerging as a potential trade suitor, which is the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Evan Dammarell via NBA Central.
The Memphis Grizzlies are a dark horse candidate for Donovan Mitchell in the event that Cleveland decides to trade him, per @AmNotEvan

The Houston Rockets were also mentioned as a team that might show interest in Mitchell over the summer if he becomes available on the trade market, which makes a lot of sense as they are a team on the rise and need a legitimate star player to lead the way.
The Grizzlies, however, don’t make much sense with Ja Morant in Memphis, as it could be Cleveland all over again with the awkwardness between Garland and Mitchell.
Unless Morant is involved in the deal, Mitchell and Morant seem like a strange pairing, but who knows what Memphis may be trying to do moving forward.
