Only a few weeks removed from firing head coach Darvin Ham after two seasons with the team, the Los Angeles Lakers have begun their search for a new leader on the sideline, with no real game-changers on the open market but a few candidates that intrigue the franchise.

Interestingly enough, the Lakers seem to be leaning toward giving ESPN’s JJ Redick his first head coaching job in the NBA, even though he has zero experience in coaching and currently is a co-host of superstar LeBron James on a podcast.

It seems as though the Lakers are doing everything within their power to appease James and convince him to re-sign with the team for a few more years after he inevitably opts out of his contract with the franchise next month.

Along with hiring his friend and podcast co-host, the Lakers seem to be open to drafting Bronny James, which essentially means the four-time NBA champion runs the franchise right now for better or worse.

With the hiring of Redick being a questionable move, to say the least, former NBA player Channing Frye chimed in on the subject and doesn’t understand why he’d take the job, via NBA TV.

“I think it’s a death sentence,” Frye said. “I think he’s jumping on a grenade. … As a first-year coach, I wouldn’t recommend that job for anybody.”

With the Lakers having a history of parting ways with head coaches quickly, Frye might be right about what the future holds for Redick if he gets the job in Los Angeles.

The odds will definitely be against him in terms of being able to lead this Lakers team to a championship and being able to satisfy a fan base that demands results right away.
