The Detroit Lions made waves recently by signing veteran quarterback Jared Goff to a massive four-year deal worth $212 million to keep him in Detroit for the foreseeable future.

Former NFL MVP and Carolina Panthers legend Cam Newton had this to say on his show about Goff after he signed the major contract:

“It’s well-deserved…Detroit, y’all get my blessing…What he’s been able to do in Detroit is something that no quarterback has ever been able to do…He’s proven himself to be the reliable player that they can depend on,” Newton said on his “4th & 1” show.

Right now, Goff is one of the best signal-callers in the sport.

He is coming off of his best season in terms of completions (407) and completion percentage (67.3%).

Additionally, he finished fourth in the league in touchdown passes (30) and should’ve been voted to the Pro Bowl.

The Lions made the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991, which is also the last time they won a playoff game.

After getting traded from the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 and seeing them win a Super Bowl with the guy they traded him for in Matthew Stafford, he could’ve sulked and had a negative outlook on life.

Instead, he put his head down and went to work.

Now, he and head coach Dan Campbell have completely changed the fortunes of the franchise.

Together, they’ve guided Detroit to back-to-back winning seasons with 23 combined wins over that span, including playoffs.

The reigning NFC North champions should be real Super Bowl contenders this upcoming season with Goff leading the way.

The fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
