The Cleveland Cavaliers are headed into an NBA offseason during which many changes could be made, from the roster to the coaching staff, which will help shape the franchise’s future.
After being knocked out of the second round of the NBA playoffs by the Boston Celtics, the Cavaliers became a hot topic of discussion in the NBA, with talk of the team more than likely trading Donovan Mitchell or Darius Garland this summer.
It seems as though the team is ready to move on from one of these stars, and it might all come down to whether Mitchell signs a contract extension with Cleveland.
If Mitchell signs an extension, the consensus is that Garland will be moved this summer, and now a trade suitor has emerged for the talented young guard, with the Minnesota Timberwolves potentially interested in bringing him in, according to Evan Dammarell of Right Down Euclid (via NBACentral).
“A source shared with Right Down Euclid that a dark horse that could try to acquire him is the Minnesota Timberwolves,” Dammarell said. “Since 2018, when Minnesota tried to trade up to select Garland in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Timberwolves have been fans of Garland’s game and need a succession plan for current starting veteran guard Mike Conley.”

Although Mitchell is considered the better player and more of a franchise player, Garland is talented and is coming off another solid season in Cleveland.
Garland averaged 18.0 points, 6.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game, shooting 44.6% from the floor and 37.1% from beyond the arc.
