In a matter of weeks, the Cleveland Cavaliers will sit down with Donovan Mitchell and discuss a potential future together.
A lot of the team’s upcoming plans will be affected by Mitchell so they must hash out everything so they can start pursuing any potential plans.
Will Mitchell sign a contract extension with the team or start the process of being traded away?
According to ESPN Cleveland, Brian Windhorst said the team thinks Mitchell is going to stick around.
“I will say this, the Cavs organization feels very optimistic that he (Mitchell) is going to sign,” Windhorst said on his “Hoop Collective” podcast.

Since joining the Cavaliers, Mitchell has proven himself to be the most important player on the team.
The team would love to keep him around long into the future, but only if he is committed.
They don’t want to risk him walking away next summer when he can choose to opt out of his upcoming player option.
Therefore, if they can’t come together and make a deal this summer, they will trade him away to get a huge return for him.
Cavaliers fans should be happy to hear that the front office feels confident in Mitchell’s return, but a new deal with him does complicate things.
Recent reports said that if Mitchell sticks around, his teammate Darius Garland could be departing.
Garland’s agent is reportedly ready to find a new home for his client if Mitchell remains with the Cavaliers.
That would break up one of the most exciting backcourt duos in the league but it could ultimately help Cleveland find more success.
Once Mitchell and the Cavaliers make a decision, a number of other plans will be put in motion.
