The New York Mets ended up winning a tough, close game against the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-5, on Thursday.
The victory didn’t come without a scare or two, though.
In fact, before they could go home with the win, the Mets’ best reliever, Edwin Diaz, blew yet another save opportunity.
“Edwin Díaz just blew his third save in his last four opportunities. Mets 4, Phillies 4, bottom nine,” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

Diaz, usually very stingy with runs, is up to a 3.57 ERA this year and has now blown three of his eight save opportunities.
He was out the entire 2023 season while recovering from major knee surgery, so early struggles, at least to some extent, are to be expected.
He might still be trying to find his best mechanics.
In seven games since April 29, the nasty right-hander has allowed six earned runs in eight innings, for a 6.75 ERA over that span.
Even the best pitchers in the world can struggle from time to time, and so far there isn’t any indication that this rough patch isn’t going to pass.
The Mets will need to remain patient with him and see the silver lining: at least they were able to overcome the situation and win on Thursday against the best team in the league.
So far, the strikeouts are there for Diaz (27 in 17.2 innings), but so are the walks (seven).
It should be a matter of days before Diaz is back dominating MLB hitters, just as he has done for his entire career.
