After dominating in Game 6 in Minneapolis at Target Center, the Minnesota Timberwolves have tied up their second-round playoff series at three games apiece, setting up what could be an epic Game 7 on the road at Ball Arena against the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets.
Fortunately for the Nuggets, Nikola Jokic and company rarely lose on their home floor in Denver, which bodes well for them to win this game against the visiting Timberwolves and advance to the Western Conference Finals to face either the Dallas Mavericks or Oklahoma City Thunder.
However, the Nuggets’ one big concern heading into this win-or-go-home scenario this weekend is that star point guard Jamal Murray is dealing with another injury.
During the first round of the playoffs, Murray battled a calf strain against the Los Angeles Lakers, but he powered through, hit two game-winning shots, and helped lead the team to the next round.
Now, an elbow injury may keep him limited during Game 7, which is obviously a big blow for the defending champions, but he’s hoping he can get it right before they take the floor on Sunday in Denver, via Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.
“I hope, for our team’s sake,” Murray said. “I hope I can get it right.”
If Murray is limited in any way and can’t perform at a high level, the Nuggets may struggle on the offensive end of the basketball floor, with Jokic likely to have the ball in his hands more often than not.
Reggie Jackson will also have to play an increased role, which has done already in these playoffs, but it remains to be seen if the team will be able to get the best of the Timberwolves in this critical game.
