NFL teams have begun to have a lot of fun each offseason when it comes to announcing their schedule releases, as it is now the Super Bowl for each team’s social media manager.
The Cleveland Browns apparently went too far and caught the ire of a renowned jeans company, which has created a sticky situation that has snowballed into somewhat of a blackmail scenario.
Mugsy Jeans has alleged that the Cleveland Browns made a “complete copy” of one of their social media videos when they did their schedule release video, and they have said “We will not sue, however we ask that the NFL buys 1 million pairs of jeans.”
The @Browns blatantly ripped our video. Like a lot. Complete copy. Let me explain…
Last year, @mugsyjeans created our first ever REAL commercial with iconic bowler Pete Weber. It was the most money we’d ever spent on ANYTHING aside from inventory.
Candidly, it is the best… pic.twitter.com/N1EuME6vQT

The tweet was shared by Cael Schwartz of Mugsy, who in a follow-up tweet clarified that they “might sue.”
Mugsy said that they spent the most money they had ever spent aside from inventory last year on their first commercial, which included bowling legend Pete Weber, he of the infamous line, “Who do you think you are, I am!”
The Browns’ schedule release video included Weber using his same catchphrase, with similar camera tracking, similar camera shots, and even a similar bowling alley.
Cleveland’s social media team may have flown too close to the sun on this one, and it’s unclear why Mugsy is calling out the NFL itself for this one if the Browns acted on their own.
