After parting ways with head coach Darvin Ham after two years with the team, the Los Angeles Lakers have begun their search for his successor as the leader on the sideline, with one name that continues to come up as potentially being the favorite to get the job.
Even though JJ Redick has zero coaching experience, the current ESPN analyst and former NBA player continues to get mentioned as the candidate that the Lakers seem to like the most during their coaching search.
If Tyronn Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers or Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd were available, this would likely be a different story altogether, but the amount of viable candidates is incredibly small, as it seems as though Redick will get his shot to show he can do the job.
ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins was recently asked who he thinks should be the Lakers’ new leader on the sideline and he didn’t hesitate to name Redick, but did mention there’s a condition to him picking the former Duke University star, via NBA on ESPN.
“The one thing that JJ Redick is going to have to do is lose that snobby Duke attitude,” Perkins said. “Going into that locker room, it’s one thing to have a high basketball IQ and know your Xs and Os, but it’s another thing to make sure you gather the ears of that locker room.”

As of right now, it might only be a matter of time before Redick is offered the job, with the expectation being that he’d take the gig immediately to start his coaching career on the NBA level.
It’ll be interesting to see if this impacts LeBron James’ decision about his future with the team.
