Over the last few weeks, the New York Knicks went on a magical playoff run the likes of which the Tri-state area hasn’t enjoyed in 24 years.
After finishing with the second seed in the Eastern Conference, they got past a talented Philadelphia 76ers team in the first round and took the ultra-potent Indiana Pacers to a Game 7.
But despite having that seventh game at Madison Square Garden, they lost, 130-109, and now they have to go back to the drawing board in order to figure out how to become a true championship contender.
While Colin Cowherd said on his show, “The Herd,” that the Knicks do need a second star and more offensive skill, he said they shouldn’t mess with what now appears to be a winning formula.
“Get a star and don’t screw with the culture.”

For so many years, the Knicks were a floundering, soulless franchise that was the laughingstock of the rest of the NBA, but now, as Cowherd pointed out, they have a strong identity and style of play.
It is reminiscent of the 1990s Knicks teams that were perennial contenders and reached the NBA Finals twice, as they’re now winning with defense, by pounding opponents on the boards and by playing with tremendous heart and grit.
Jalen Brunson is the new star of the Knicks, not to mention the toast of New York City, but he needs a legitimate All-Star partner if he is to carry the team to its first world championship since 1973.
Julius Randle, who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in late-January, has made the All-Star team three of the last four years, but whether he fits offensively is a big question.
If the Knicks figure out who their second star is, whether it’s Randle or someone else they end up acquiring, a trip to the NBA Finals next June won’t be out of the question.
