The 2024 NBA Draft lottery has officially taken place, which gives teams an idea of their position heading into this momentous event.
This year’s draft has slightly less fanfare than the 2023 class, mainly because the group doesn’t include a generationally hyped player like Victor Wembanyama.
With this in mind, fans have tried to figure out who will be the No. 1 overall pick, which belongs to the Atlanta Hawks.
Some have suggested that Alex Sarr will be the No. 1 pick, an idea that has gained considerable traction over the past several weeks.
Conveniently, Sarr is a 7’1″ center from France, which is ironic given Wenbamyama’s height and country of origin.
Sarr recently sat down with Robbie Hummel of Sirius XM NBA Radio to discuss the recent talks of him going No. 1 overall.
“Being the first in your class and I’m a competitor, and of course that’s what I want,” Sarr said.

Sarr seems to have a winning mentality, a trait that many teams look for.
He has had a lot of success in France to this point, and because he’s played professionally overseas, he has a leg up on his counterparts in the draft.
As Wembanyama and Luka Doncic have demonstrated in recent seasons, playing as a professional before joining the NBA is an invaluable experience.
It allows people to play against the best basketball players in their country, a unique edge they have over college athletes from the United States.
It will be interesting to see what the Hawks do with this pick, especially if they end up taking Sarr.
