The Cleveland Cavaliers season has ended unceremoniously at the hands of the Boston Celtics in the form of a 4-1 defeat in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, and the path the team took to this destination has left a lot of questions to be answered this offseason.
One of those questions is the status of head coach JB Bickerstaff, and ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has revealed when he believes the team will make a decision.
In an appearance on ESPN Cleveland, Windhorst said “I expect a resolution one way or another shortly, imminently, I don’t know about the next day but certainly soon.”

Windhorst has always been one of the most in-the-know members of the NBA media, and given how quickly some other teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns have moved on from their coaches following early playoff exits, it seems reasonable that Windhorst is spot on here with his assessment of Cleveland’s coaching situation.
Bickerstaff’s status likely won’t be the main subplot of the Cavs’ offseason, as the status of stars Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen is going to be called into question after both missed time with injury in the Celtics series and after another season where their fits alongside their young counterparts Evan Mobley and Darius Garland have been questioned heavily.
Both could be available in a trade, and either way, the Cavs have to make multiple big decisions this offseason whether they decide to pivot or run it back and give this group more time to grow together.
