Following his third season with the Chicago Bears, star quarterback Justin Fields faced an uncertain future, as he didn’t make a lot of progress in what turned out to be his final year in the Windy City.

Fields’ lack of progress on the football field during the 2023 campaign convinced the Bears to use the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on USC superstar quarterback Caleb Williams, making the Ohio State product expendable and destined to be traded at some point during this NFL offseason.

Ultimately, the Pittsburgh Steelers made the surprising move to trade for Fields, which was strange after signing veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to presumably be the starter for the foreseeable future.

It appears there will be a bit of a quarterback controversy in Pittsburgh, with Fields’ arrival putting pressure on Wilson, especially with the young quarterback claiming that he’s still got a long way to go before hitting his ceiling via Mike DeFabo of The Athletic.

“I’m nowhere near my ceiling,” Fields said.

As of right now, Wilson is expected to be the starter in Pittsburgh when Week 1 of the 2024 NFL regular season rolls around when the team will go on the road to face the new-look Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

However, if he proves to be the better option under center during training camp, Fields could be named the starter before Week 1.

Only time will tell how things pan out in Pittsburgh, but it is shaping up to be an interesting 2024 campaign for the storied franchise.
