Last season, the Los Angeles Lakers chose to make some moves before the NBA trade deadline, which resulted in the team bringing in some former Minnesota Timberwolves.
Those players turned out to be D’Angelo Russell, who started his NBA career with the Lakers, and defensive-minded forward Jarred Vanderbilt, both of whom made a considerable impact on the team and earned new contracts last summer.
Along with bringing in these two former Timberwolves, the Lakers signed forward Taurean Prince in NBA free agency over the summer, who also used to play for Minnesota.
With these three current Lakers being former teammates on the Timberwolves, they have a rooting interest in the Western Conference Finals, with Minnesota about to go head-to-head against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
Russell recently took to social media to have a little fun when talking about his former team, calling them the “Minnesota Lakers” and claiming Anthony Edwards and company will win in a sweep to advance to the NBA Finals, via Courtside Buzz.

Although the Mavericks defeated the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in six games during the second round of the NBA playoffs, Dallas will be the underdogs heading into this highly-anticipated series against Minnesota.
It’ll be interesting to see if the upstart Timberwolves can continue their magical 2023-24 campaign by getting the best of the Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals to advance to the NBA Finals to face the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers.
