The Houston Rockets were gifted with the third pick in next month’s NBA Draft, but what will they do with it?
That is a question that many people are asking as the draft approaches and Houston’s plans don’t seem clear.
According to Kelly Iko, via Erik Slater, the Rockets are keeping an eye on other draft picks as well.
The team is reportedly interested in the Phoenix Suns’ unprotected first-round picks that are held by the Brooklyn Nets thanks to the Kevin Durant trade.
What will they do to get and how will that affect their plans?
From @KellyIko on potential Nets-Rockets trade negotiations:
“The Houston Chronicle first reported the Rockets’ interest in the Suns’ unprotected first-round picks… Per team sources, the Rockets will re-engage with the Nets leading up to the June 26 draft.” https://t.co/ydDYcY00us

It should be noted that Iko reported that the Rockets have “maintained interest” in Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell and are still monitoring his situation.
Could they be trying to compile draft picks in a potential deal to land the All-Star?
Their attempts to gather multiple picks suggest that the Rockets are trying to do something big.
Bringing in multiple picks and a few players to a competing front office is a great way to land another star to bolster the roster and give the team a better chance in 2024–25.
The Rockets ended this season as the 11th team in the Western Conference, but they showed a lot of promise and it’s clear that the next few years could be very good for them.
This upcoming draft could have a huge impact on their plans and just how quickly they climb higher in their conference next season.
They are one of many teams that will be creating plans and making deals in the next few weeks before the draft.
