When LeBron James took his talents down to South Beach to join the Miami Heat back in 2010, it was perhaps the biggest free agency decision in the history of sports, which is why he did an unprecedented thing and decided to do it on a live television special.
Byron Scott joined the Cavs as head coach just days before LeBron decided to leave, and he recently opened up about what that time was like for him and shared an honest admission about “The Decision.”
Scott sat down with former NFL great Keyshawn Johnson on “All Facts No Brakes” and opened up about the situation, saying that Chris Paul was the one who broke the news to him that LeBron was leaving, and he said on the day of “The Decision” he was with the front office and they were certain he wasn’t leaving, but Scott called Paul to find out and Paul said: “Coach, he’s gone.”

After that conversation, Scott broke the news to the front office and they still didn’t believe him and he added that there probably wasn’t anything he or anybody else could have done to change his mind, as he believes the decision was made before his final season with the Cavaliers.
Scott mentioned James’ time in the Olympics as a factor that contributed to the bond he formed with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, and that the choice to link up with the Miami Heat was a done deal long before the day of “The Decision.”
Even all these years later, it’s crazy that the event even happened.
It changed basketball forever.
