The NBA has changed a lot over the years.
In the early stages of the league, post play was viewed as the most important, as having a dominant big man was seemingly the name of the game.
The league has evolved a lot in recent seasons, as being a good shooter from the perimeter has taken over as a key characteristic of the best NBA players.
There is still a need for big centers and power forwards, but even with those players, they are expected to have somewhat of a jump shot.
While the on-court mentality and strategy have changed significantly, the type of player and play style has also changed.
After seeing some of the recent on-court antics, such as the emergence of flopping, many distinguished NBA alum are frustrated with the current state of the game.
Byron Scott made this abundantly clear in a recent segment of “All Gas No Brakes” with Keyshawn Johnson.
“They wouldn’t compete with us in our era. This is the softest brand of basketball you can play right now,” Scott said.

Scott seems to believe that this version of the NBA is weak and that they would have a tough time playing in another NBA era.
Each generation of athletes has it’s own characteristics, and in Scott’s mind, this generation is weaker than the ones that came before them.
Fans still seem to appreciate this era of NBA basketball, despite Scott’s assertion that these players are weak and less entertaining to watch than his time in the league.
