The Los Angeles Lakers are looking for a new head coach to replace Darvin Ham, who was promptly fired at the end of the season after two years leading the team.
And although a few people have been tied to the position, Stephen A. Smith told “First Take” that JJ Redick is currently the leading candidate for the job.
“Stop the B.S.,” Smith said, claiming that everyone knows Redick is the frontrunner to be LA’s next head coach.

Redick is definitely the name most commonly linked to the head coaching job.
There are others, like Sam Cassell and James Borrego, but Redick’s name continually comes up when people talk about LA’s future.
There are many reasons why people think Redick is going to get this job.
First, he has a friendship and a podcast with Lakers superstar LeBron James.
Even though James says that he doesn’t want to be a part of the coaching search, there is no doubt that his approval is very important to the Lakers.
They want to choose someone who will make James happy and that is definitely Redick.
Additionally, he has the sort of basketball knowledge that will help the team and he’s young and could be with the organization for years.
Of course, the Lakers are going to continue their hunt for a new coach and they will not give any insight into which direction they are taking.
But it seems like Redick is a good fit for the head coach position, despite his inexperience in that sort of position.
Will Lakers fans be happy with that choice?
Will it lead to many more wins in 2024-25?
This is a selection that will have a major impact on the Lakers for the foreseeable future.
